Competency #9 Internet
I searched Dogpile to find information about online book clubs for children. I discovered a public library site where students can discuss what they have been reading. Lists of books are also available as well as new featured selections.

This is not a very exciting graph but I included it because during my teaching career I have had parents want to know how to gage the level of the book their child is reading. In keeping with my topic of "Connecting Kids to Books" I thought that the Fry Readability Chart/Graph would be a help.

or better yet, since there really isn't much there, here is the picture.
S1 + S2 + S3 fluency retrieved 6 hits. The S1 serach for reading aloud produced the Read Aloud Handbook by Jim Trelease which has relevant information and titles of books. S1 + S2 produced an interesting hit, Classics to Read Out Loud to Your Children by William R. Russell. When all the terms were combined there were several relevant hits out of the 6 retrieved.

S2 was reading comprehension and it retrieved 202 hits some of which were very relevant.

The pre-school students on our campus are coming to us with fewer skills. Parents are busy working and students are missing out on the rhymes and fairy tales that used to be a standard part of growing up. I believe that chilren need to hear good reading modeled to them so I decided to see if there was anything to support my statements. I started with S1 reading aloud and retrieved 2, 143 results.

To narrow even further I decided to look for a list or lists of graphic novels to feature on my blog sight so I added S3 list and received one relevant hit.

Graphic novels seem to be very popular with boys and the older elementary students where I work. I decided to seek a list of graphic novels for my blog. I decided the broadest topic would be graphic novels so I began with S1 graphic novels. I retrieved 1362 results.

I chose to follow the descriptor for student interest and I retrieved an article about book clubs based on the popularity of the Oprah book club, except for children.

Book clubs seem to be very a very hot item today. There are book clubs for just boys, just girls, mixed or even themed clubs. I thought I would like to gather some information regarding book clubs for children. Teachers, parents, and librarians might find this of interest, especially if they were wanting to create a book club for students. I started the search with reading interests and received 2,237 hits.

Three of the articles were relevant to my search for poetry for adolescents. I tried to search for by addeding boys and did not retrieve any results so I changed to reading. This information would still be useful

This addition gave me articles that featured the best poetry for a specific year.
